2025 Personal Tax Deadlines

Please review all applicable deadlines below. Filing and payment rules vary depending on your personal situation. If you have any questions about which deadlines apply to you, please contact your DURCO representative.

General Deadline for Individuals

Self-Employed Individuals and Their Spouses

Deceased Taxpayers

The filing deadline for the final return of a deceased individual is determined by the date of death:

  • Passed away between January 1 and October 31: final return due by April 30, 2026
  • Passed away between November 1 and December 31: final return due six months after the date of death

Deceased Taxpayers Who Carried on a Business

Where the deceased was self-employed or carried on a business, different rules apply:

  • Passed away between January 1 and December 15: final return due by June 15, 2026
  • Passed away between December 16 and December 31: final return due six months after the date of death
T3 Slip Notice

Investment issuers have until March 31, 2026 to provide T3 slips. If you hold investments, we recommend waiting until all slips have been received before submitting your document package. To safeguard accuracy, DURCO will not submit returns for clients with investment income or capital gains until the first week of April 2026 at the earliest.

Income Tax Instalments

If your tax balance owing has exceeded a certain threshold in prior years, the CRA may require you to make quarterly income tax instalment payments throughout 2026. Instalments are generally required where your projected net tax owing for 2025 exceeds $3,000, and your actual net tax owing in either 2024 or 2023 also exceeded $3,000.

If instalments apply to you, payments for 2026 are due on the following dates:

Important

Insufficient or late instalment payments may result in interest and penalties assessed by the CRA. If you are unsure whether instalments apply to your situation, we encourage you to speak with your DURCO representative well in advance of the first payment date.

Document Submission Deadlines

To ensure your return is prepared and filed on time, please submit all of your tax documents to DURCO by the applicable deadline below. Providing a complete, organized package by these dates gives our team the time needed to prepare your return accurately and without delay.

Please Note

Submit all documents in a single, organized package to avoid processing delays. Incomplete submissions may result in your return being held until all required information has been received.

2025 Tax Planning Considerations

Certain life events and financial changes can have a meaningful impact on your tax return. Please notify your DURCO representative if any of the following applied to you in the 2025 tax year, so we can ensure your return is complete and that all available credits and deductions are captured.

  • Change in marital status, including marriage, separation, divorce, or a change in common-law status
  • Sale or disposition of a principal residence. Reporting to the CRA is mandatory if you or a family member disposed of a property in 2025.
  • First-time home buyer in 2025. You may be eligible for the $10,000 First Home Buyers' Tax Credit, worth up to $1,500 in federal tax savings.
  • Purchase or sale of real estate in 2025. Please provide all relevant documentation when submitting your package.
  • Foreign property holdings over $100,000 CAD, including foreign cash, stocks, cryptocurrency, or real estate held outside Canada. A T1135 Foreign Income Verification Statement may be required.
  • Immigration to or emigration from Canada in 2025. Departure and arrival tax rules apply in the year of a move.
  • Use of a vehicle for work or business purposes. Please also advise us if you changed vehicles at any point during the year.
  • Payments to the Receiver General exceeding $10,000. As of January 1, 2024, these must be remitted electronically to avoid CRA penalties.
